As a Consortium we have over 200 academics working in all areas of energy related research.

Our key Research Themes are:

We are extensively engaged with companies, both large national and multi-national and SME's, leading to many collaborative research projects. Across the MEC we have extensive research and demonstration facilities. These include:

  • £2M photovoltaics laboratory
  • £3M world class engine test facilities
  • £1.5M fuel cells laboratory
  • £2M investment to establish world-leading laboratories in industrial scale microwave processing, hydrogen storage and carbon capture
  • Unique series of creative energy dwellings
  • Instrumented house for testing domestic retrofit
  • Fleet of 5 hydrogen fuelled vehicles
